In recent years as the status of HIIT has increased, many people have swapped there long and laborious treadmill runs with short 20 minute HIIT sessions.

The reason HIIT is effective at burning fat is because it not only burns calories during the workout but continues to do so afterwards. This increase in metabolism is due to the high energy demands of HIIT and is the reason why these workouts only need to last 12-20 minutes.
